12/18/07
- A few minutes after midnight volunteers
were requested to respond to Highway 231 in the City of Arab for
a working commercial fire. Engine 3, Rescue 4, and Chief 1
responded with 6 volunteers. Volunteers arrived to find a mid
size shopping center with fire in the end cap building and smoke
extension into several stores. Arab Firefighters did a fantastic
job making quick work of the fire and preventing what could have
been a far more serious incident. Brindlee Mountain volunteers
assisted with ventilating several of the adjacent storefronts.
In addition to Arab and Brindlee Mountain, the City of
Guntersville also responded. We applaud the good work of the
Arab Fire Department and are thankful to have them as friends
and neighbors. Chief Phillips (Arab Fire) had the incident
command.

06:42AM volunteers were alerted to the single vehicle accident
on Highway 231 near Water Tower Loop. A southbound vehicle had
lost control, crashed through the median, and came to rest in
the northbound lanes. Rescue 4 and Engine 1 arrived within 2
minutes of the call. Engine 4 responded as well due to the
location and the amount of traffic control required during the
morning traffic. Fortunately there were no injuries and the

At
10:15AM volunteers were alerted to the structure fire on
Telephone Tower Road. FF Alldredge arrived in his personal
vehicle within 2 minutes and reported heavy fire showing from
the roof of the house. Rescue 4 (FF/EMT Wessel) and Engine 2
from Union Hill (FF Paramedic Yanhko) arrived first on the scene
and stretched a 1 1/2" attack line to the front of the
structure. Engine 1 from Morgan City (FF/EMT McMunn) arrived as
the second due engine and laid out 700 feet of 5" supply line
from a fire hydrant located on Telephone Tower Road. Engine 4
(FF Keierleber) arrived as the third due engine and staged on
the road while the crew assisted on the fireground. Due the
advancement of the fire prior to the arrival of the fire
department very little could be done to save the house but
firefighters were able to prevent a mobile home on Side C from
being ignited from the radiant heat. Firefighters operated for
just over 5 hours on the call (during which time the BMVFD
responded to 4 additional calls across the coverage area). FF/EMT
Wessel had the Telephone Tower Road Incident Command and Captain
Burns had the Fireground Operations Command.
