08/21/07 - Tractor Trailer Accident

At 7:08AM volunteers were alerted to the 3400 block of Highway 231 for a tractor trailer accident with approximately 100 gallons of asphalt primer that had spilled onto the roadway. Engine 1, Engine 4, and Rescue 4 responded with 9 volunteers. BMVFD provided traffic control and containment of the primer until the state arrived to take over clean up. Due to the time of the spill and the heavy traffic on the highway, multiple vehicles sustained damage from the spill, creating a logistics nightmare for the morning commute. Volunteers cleared the scene approximately 2 hours after the time of call. Chief Whisenant had the Highway 231 command.
